Barnacle and Scallop Hair pin

The little barnacles attached to the scallop show give us just a tiny hint of part of its story before I picked it up on a recent family trip to Sanibel Island in Florida.

Set in a brass and copper setting, this hairpin is 5.5” from top to bottom. 

Please note that I have reinforced the seashell to make it a bit stronger, but this material is a bit more delicate than a stone. It withstood ocean waves and beach traffic for quite a while before I picked it up, but it just might require slightly more careful treatment than a typical hairpin (by this, I mean I keep my daily hairpin in my purse and it gets beat and bonked around like crazy. That might be bad for this piece. Normal wear and use should be okay.)
